The formula, and which parts are load-bearing
Alpha Gigante declares five actives: L-arginine, sarsaparilla root extract (Smilax officinalis), extract of the aerial parts of common oat (Avena sativa), zinc and selenium.
Two of those five stand on solid ground. Zinc is a cofactor in testosterone synthesis and carries an authorised EU claim for contributing to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in blood — a claim that applies to correcting a shortfall rather than boosting a normal level. Selenium contributes to normal spermatogenesis under a similarly authorised claim.
The other three are weaker. L-arginine has a real mechanism as a nitric oxide precursor and a real bioavailability problem. Sarsaparilla and oat straw are traditional-use botanicals with very little controlled human data for male sexual function; oat straw in particular is a folk remedy with a persistent reputation and almost no trial base.
